New Moon DVD Viewing Party!

Do you want to throw a New Moon DVD Viewing party with your friends? Well, here's a how-to! You're going to need invitations, the DVD (obviously!), snacks and decorations!

Invitations

Here is a sample of how you could do an invitation :) I made this at ScrapBlog. I don't mind making one for you, so if you need a custom one, feel free to contact me at threeclarks08@yahoo.com .

Invitations are important for a party! It will help you and your friends plan for the big day!

Snacks

Snacks are important! Who doesn't love some munchies when watching a movie? There are so many options! You can get the basics like chips & such, or you can do theme foods!

Werewolf Kibble is awesome, it tastes so good! You can go over to BiteBella.com for the recipe!

You can also make Vampire punch, which is exceedingly easy! If you're over 21, you can even spike it!

For the vampire punch we had at my New Moon birthday bash we used 2 liters of sprite, 2 liters of hawaiian punch and then a whole thing of sherbert...YUM! It was so so so so good!

If you're over 21, get some strawberry daquiri pre-mixed drinks at the liquor store, add crushed ice and VOILA!

Decorations

Decorations are VERY important to set the mood of the party. Since this is both Edward & Jacob's movie, we need to balance out the decorations for them both. I suggest:

--Brown & Cream colored Candles for Jacob
--Black & White colored Candles for Edward
--Jars of russet colored sand & rocks
--Jars of plastic gems (red & clear)
--New Moon posters
--Dreamcatchers
--Roses as seen in the party scene

Here are some pictures of how we set up our party back in November.

This was how we set up Jake's table---hazelnut colored candles, quotes with Jacob in them or about him, we had dream catcher favors which I made and some food.

Here is Edward's table; very vampire-esque. We had glass jars with red and clear appliques, a wood burning like with Jake's table, red candles, vampire punch, some food.

Favors
For our party we had a few favors: Edward's Memory Box (small wooden box painted black then sprinkled with glitter. Edward says the human memory is no more than a sieve, so save your special memories in this little box!), Bella's De-stress Bath salts (Bella is stressed out like constantly, I know I would be too! These bath salts are immensely easy to make and pretty cheap: Dead Sea Salt $7.00 @ Michael's Craft Store, Epsom Salt $1.29 @ Walmart, Bath Salt Scent $3.95 @ Michael's, and Bath Salt Coloring $3.95 @ Michael's, Little bags $4.00 at walmart), Werewolf kisses ("chocolate" lip gloss from Bon-Bon cosmetics), Vampire Kisses ("cherry" lipgloss from Bon-Bon cosmetics), and Jacob's Dream Catcher (pretty easy to make, but lengthy to make. I suggest getting ALL of the materials at a craft store instead of trying to be authentic like me and attempt to use real branches---it ends in frusteration!)

As you can see in this picture it's Jake's table. We put some of Bella's Destress Bath Salts on here and some on Edward's table. You can also see the chocolate kisses in this picture.

Activities

At our party we did:

--T-shirt contest (a lot of people came to the party with New Moon themed shirts, I'll post a picture as an example)
--Quote Contest (I had 20 quotes from New Moon that people had to guess which character said them. My friend Josh comes to mind as I write this. He hasn't read the series and he's only seen Twilight once. I asked a question that had Sam Uley as the speaker and he belts out "SAM!!!" we still have no idea how he knew that, LOL!)
--I think we also did Trivia.

Here is my co-blogger Courtney (and she's my best friend as well!) and my Brother Brandyn. Courtney loves Jacob...can anyone tell??!

The DVD!
And last, but certainly not least...THE DVD! And of COURSE you will wanna get the ULTIMATE Fan edition, am I right? Well good! You can get it at WALMART ONLY! That's right! WALMART ONLY! Annnnd...get this! It will feature SEVEN WHOLE MINUTES OF ECLIPSE! Get it! get it! GET IT!!!! They are on pre-order until they come out, March 20th! :D

Well my friends, I hope I gave you a good overview of how a kick-butt New Moon DVD viewing party would go...if you have ANY questions, please contact me and I can help you out! ( Crystal threeclarks08@yahoo.com )

Sucking the Quilleute Dry..

This is an article that was recently written about Twilight and the effects it has had on the Quilleute people.

Sucking the Quileute Dry

By Angela R. Riley
Published: February 7, 2010

LL the world, it seems, has been bitten by “Twilight.” Conservative estimates place revenue generated from Stephenie Meyer’s vampire chronicles — the books, movies and merchandise — in the billion-dollar range. Scarcely mentioned, however, is the effect that “Twilight” has had on the tiny Quileute Nation, situated on a postage stamp of a reservation, just one square mile, in remote La Push, Wash.

To millions of “Twilight” fans, the Quileute are Indians whose (fictional) ancient treaty transforms young males of the tribe into vampire-fighting wolves. To the nearly 700 remaining Quileute Indians, “Twilight” is the reason they are suddenly drawing extraordinary attention from the outside — while they themselves remain largely excluded from the vampire series’ vast commercial empire.

Just last month, MSN.com issued an apology to the Quileute for intruding on its territory while videotaping a “Twilight” virtual tour in September. MSN.com sought permission from the Chamber of Commerce in nearby Forks, Wash., but didn’t pay the same courtesy to the Quileute. The video team trespassed onto a reservation cemetery and taped Quileute graves, including those of esteemed tribal leaders. These images were then set to macabre music and, in November, posted on MSN.com. The tribe quickly persuaded MSN.com to remove the Quileute images.

But this was only one episode in the story of the tribe’s phenomenal, and apparently increasing, new fame. “Twilight” has made all things Quileute wildly popular: Nordstrom.com sells items from Quileute hoodies to charms bearing a supposed Quileute werewolf tattoo. And a tour company hauls busloads of fans onto the Quileute reservation daily. Yet the tribe has received no payment for this commercial activity. Meanwhile, half of Quileute families still live in poverty.

It’s important to point out that the outside uses of the Quileute name, from the “Twilight” books to the tattoo jewelry, are quite likely legal. American intellectual property laws, except in very specific circumstances, do not protect indigenous peoples’ collective cultural property.

In fact, many businesses use tribal names without involving the Indians themselves. Consider, for example, well-known products like Jeep Cherokee trucks, Oneida flatware and Apache helicopters — none of which are officially associated with Indian tribes. (The Quileute say they have never been contacted by Ms. Meyer or any of those who use the Quileute name for merchandising.)

The most significant federal law that addresses the marketing of Indian cultural goods — the Indian Arts and Crafts Act, passed in 1935 — is meant to ensure truth in advertising. It requires that any artistic products claiming to have a tribal origin are in fact produced by that tribe. Hopi kachina dolls, for example, must be Hopi-made. But it does not come into play for the Quileute hoodies, jewelry or other goods, because there is no claim they were made by the Quileute.

So what can be done? Even absent legal protection, the Quileute should be able to have a say in, and benefit financially from, outsiders’ use of their cultural property.

Many Indian tribes develop markets for their own cultural property — or at least the part of it that is not deemed sacred and therefore private. Some have introduced culturally appropriate commercial products — Navajo rugs, for example, or Potawatomi porcupine-quill earrings — to educate non-Indians about their traditions or to earn a living.

The Quileute are likewise eager to share their tribal culture, even if the interest in it was created primarily by Hollywood. The Quileute welcome outsiders, as my own interactions with them have confirmed. When hordes of “Twilight” fans showed up in La Push in 2008, the tribe, as a sovereign Indian nation, could have closed its reservation, but tribal members chose not to do so.

At the same time, like indigenous peoples around the globe, the Quileute want to be meaningful participants in the treatment of their own cultural property. This means, first and foremost, having their sovereignty and their culture respected by outsiders. The Quileute’s Web site tells visitors about the tribal laws that govern Quileute territory. One of these laws specifies that burial grounds and religious ceremonies are “sacred and not to be entered.” Had MSN acknowledged the tribe as a sovereign government, it might not have broken that rule. The Quileute believe that respect for Indian tribal sovereignty could likewise bridge cultural gaps between other Indian communities and outsiders.

Going forward, the Quileute should be engaged in the “Twilight” phenomenon. They should be able, first, to welcome Ms. Meyer to the reservation and introduce her to the Tribal Council and all the Quileute people. They should be consulted on projects where the Quileute name and culture are used to market products. And Quileute elders should be able to share with the world the true Quileute creation story, in which tribal members were transformed into humans from wolves (not vampire-fighting wolves).

Undoubtedly, the Quileute, whose remote reservation leaves them with few options for economic development, would also welcome “Twilight”-based profit-sharing arrangements or other opportunities to capitalize on the phenomenon. They struggle to maintain adequate tribal housing and to support their tribal school, Elder Center and tribal court, all of which are integral to ensuring that their culture continues for future generations.

The ultimate choice, regarding not only the Quileute but all indigenous peoples, is not simply whether outsiders are free to appropriate tribal cultural property. For the sake of fairness as much as law, indigenous peoples must play a significant role in decisions regarding their cultural property.

Angela R. Riley directs the American Indian Studies Center at the University of California, Los Angeles. She has informally advised the Quileute Tribe on a voluntary basis.

Taylor Lautner to play Stretch Armstrong

Yep, thats right! Taylor Lautner will be playing Stretch Armstrong. Here is an article by The Hollywood Gossip:

"In the fantasies of many females, Taylor Lautner is their boy toy.

On the big screen, similarly, he'll soon portray a character based on a toy.

The Twilight Saga cutie has signed on to anchor Stretch Armstrong, a movie based on an action figure of the same name.

As written by The Hollywood Reporter, this family friendly action film will tell the story of “an uptight spy who stumbles across a stretching formula, which he takes and must now adjust to in everyday life and when fighting crime."

Check out the following commercial for the Stretch Armstrong toy to see get an idea of what Lautner is in for:

Stretch Armstrong Commercial

The movie, which will be released by Universal Pictures, will be filmed with 3-D technology.

"In the past two years, Taylor has emerged as a real star at the global box office," said studio cochair Donna Langley. "He brings the perfect balance of energy and athleticism to the role of an unlikely super hero with a fantastic super power. We couldn't be more pleased that he has agreed to be our Stretch."

Look for Stretch Armstrong to hit theaters in 2012. This summer, of course, you can see Lautner reprise the role of Jacob in Eclipse"

Interesting, right? LOL, we'll see. We'll all probably end up seeing it anyway, just because Tay is in it...Am I right? :)

Kristen talks about "Welcome to the Riley's"

MTV caught up with Kristen Stewart recently, talking about one of Kristen's newest movies, 'Welcome to the Riley's'. Here's the article:

Back when we spoke to Kristen Stewart at Sundance while she was promoting "Welcome to the Rileys", she told us on the red carpet that she has never "felt so personally involved in something" as she did with the film. In "Rileys," Kristen plays runaway stripper and prostitute, Mallory, who James Gandolfini's Doug Riley attempts to take in to lessen the pain of his own daughter's death.

Kristen never took the role lightly, even going to strip clubs to speak to the girls working in them and hear their stories. When MTV News caught up with Kristen to discuss the film more, we asked if there were any lingering effects of Mallory still with her.

"Oh my God, yeah. Yeah. It's just like any movie I've done, it changes me. Absolutely," Kristen said. "And not just movies, like any experience you have is going to change you. But like the biggest, monumental things in my life have always been films, so this one has been — out of any movie I've done — definitely the most transformative."

Kristen had a little trouble sharing what exactly what is was she took from the film, but then explained it was something she could feel inside of her at all times.

"I think I'm just a little bit more sensitive. I'm so, i'f you looked at a girl wrong now, I would fly across the room and kill you.' It's like I feel so, so, so protective of this certain thing that women have, and [laughs] yeah," she said. "So that I definitely take from it, which is different because I didn't have that before, and now I'm like weird about it. Like I overcompensate. Like you would be like, 'Calm down. Like, What happened to you?' No, I just did a movie. [laughs] I wasn't like raped, horrifically raped."

Oh Kristen...you're choice of words is just...classy. Lol. We all love you Kristen.
